5. Community Spirit Challenge
YES!Circle ISO New Home

As entrepreneurs, we pride ourselves on our ingenuity, resourcefulness and creativity, not to mention great networking skills! So here is this month's opportunity to use your talents and contacts for a greater good.

As the YES!Circle continues to grow, we are actively looking for a new home, starting the New Year. Since all of us have access to tremendous resources, once we start digging, this challenge should be a cinch once we start brainstorming together!

We are all about win-win, so what do you get for finding a new home for the YES!Circle (in addition to the satisfaction of solving the Great Community Spirit Challenge and our undying gratitude?) As our thanks for your efforts and good will, the winner of the Community Spirit Challenge will:

  • Win a FREE YES!Circle membership or a certificate for $100 YES!Circle dollars, per your preference.
  • Be highlighted in the next Newsletter
  • Receive an honorable mention at YES!Circle holiday event on December 18th
  • ALL viable leads will be entered in a raffle for a FREE YES!Circle membership or a certificate for $100 YES!Circle dollars, per your preference.

* The following are important factors to consider in looking for space:

  • Location: preferably in the city or centrally located, metro accessible.
  • Environment: private, quiet, learning and connection conducive (restaurants, bars and libraries are not appropriate for most YES!Circle events)
  • Size: to comfortably accommodate 20-35 participants (or more for special events)
  • Cost: we are interested in win-win relationships with our facility provider. Therefore, an ideal “host” is someone who will benefit from allying with the YES!Circle.
  • Potential lead ideas: local universities with entrepreneurship programs (particularly GWU); banks; professional firms, such as law or accounting; relevant NGOs and trade associations; fill in the blanks.

Interview with Glennette Clark, Owner, Lazy Smart Consulting, LLC

Q: What does it mean to be Lazy Smart?

A: Lazy Smart a state of mind - it's a way of working smarter, not harder. Our Lazy Smart clients take the time to plan and strategize, to find the most efficient way to achieve their business goals. Being Lazy Smart means delegating-either to a person or a machine.

Q: What is your company's goal?

A: Our goal is to make clients aware of the benefits of integrating technology into an organization's overall business strategy. IT strategy and marketing strategy are not opposites; they complement one another. A business should put as much thought into its technology management strategy as it does its business strategy.

Q: How did you come up with such a clever name for your company?

A: I got the idea at a conference when I heard Bran Ferren, a former Disney Imagineer, talk about the type of people they should look for to work for their organizations. According to a study Ferren sited, there are four types of individuals: lazy dumb, busy dumb, lazy smart, and busy smart. Obviously, no one wants employees from the "dumb" category but which type of "smart" person is best for your organization? Business leaders and managers come from the "lazy smart" category because they have the ability to think, plan, strategize, and delegate, to accomplish more in a shorter amount of time without the need to do it themselves.
